Barry Murphy Death, Obituary – It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Barry Murphy last night. Barry held a special place in our pipe band family, having served as the former pipe major of both the Carrigaline Pipe Band and, more recently, the Ringaskiddy Pipe Band in County Cork.
Barry’s dedication and passion for piping left an indelible mark on our community. Alongside his sons Michael and Ciaran, he was a well-known figure in both pipe band and solo piping circles across the Republic of Ireland. Together, they brought their talents to various stages, enriching our musical landscape.
During their prime, the Ringaskiddy Pipe Band stood out as a remarkable force, becoming regular contenders in competitions across Northern Ireland and even venturing to Scotland. Their successes in the lower grades garnered numerous well-deserved accolades. Barry’s leadership was a driving force behind these achievements.
Beyond his contributions to the bands, Barry was an active member of the Munster Branch Association IPBA, demonstrating his commitment to fostering camaraderie and growth within our community. His involvement extended to the national association level, where his insights and dedication furthered the progress of piping as a whole.
In this time of sorrow, our thoughts and sympathies go out to Barry’s family. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy will continue to resonate in the memories and music he shared with us all.
As we mourn the loss of a dear friend and passionate piper, let us also remember the joy he brought to our lives through his music and his unwavering commitment to our shared passion. May Barry’s soul find peace, and may his memory inspire us to continue his musical journey in his honor.
