Charles Franklin Death, Obituary – We deeply regret to announce the passing of Charles Franklin Snyder, a beloved resident of Mannington, WV, who left us on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the age of 93. Charles was born on November 30, 1929, in Metz, WV, the son of the late Edgar L. Snyder and Georgia W. Franklin Snyder. Charles’s journey in the Armed Services led him to the Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Germany, where fate intertwined his path with his cherished wife, Anita Luise Heller Snyder, who preceded him in death.
A dedicated Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, Charles also had the honor of serving with the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team. After his distinguished career in the Air Force, he continued his service, working for 20 years in the Dodds Government School System in Germany.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue E. Snyder of Mannington, and leaves behind a legacy carried by four grandchildren and their families. Among them, Jacqueline L. Snyder and her great-granddaughter Anita Ann “Snookaputzy” Snyder of Mannington; Robert “Bob” Allen Jackson and his father Richard Jackson of Mannington; Jeannette Lynn of Mannington, along with her great-grandchildren Stone Cole Sampson, Shannon Nicole Sampson, and great-great-grandson Morrison Cole “The Little One” Sampson of Lumberport; and Sean David Snyder and his wife Samantha of Wallace, accompanied by their great-grandchildren Cameron, Ashton, Brenton, Destiny Snyder, and James Swiger, all of Wallace.
In addition to his parents, Charles is predeceased by two children, Richard William Snyder and Centa Ann Snyder Shaw. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral home services, as Charles’s remains have been cremated. On Friday, August 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm, a solemn inurnment ceremony will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV. The event will be graced with Full Military Rites by the United States Air Force and the Marion County Honor Guard, and the ceremony will be officiated by Pastor Bill Coon. The final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Masters Funeral Home in Mannington.
