Donald Wells Obituary, Death – On August 24, 2023, Donald “Red” Ray Wells, who resided in Rita, quietly departed this world from the comfort of his own home. On January 13, 1945, he was born to Marion and Florence (Chapman) Wells, who have now passed away. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by the woman who was the love of his life, Linda (Johnson) Wells; his brothers, Lester, Wilson, Billy, Frankie, Jiggs, Buck, Johnny, Stanley, Dennis (Infant), and Coleman;
and his sisters, Mae Blair, Marie Chambers, Sharon Wells (Infant), and Brenda White. His parents were born in the United States. Donald was unable to work in the coal mines but was a master of several skills. When he was in a position to assist others, he never missed an opportunity to do so. He took pleasure in hanging out with his loved ones, swinging on his front porch, and greeting neighbors and friends that passed by.
His children, David (Beverly) Wells, Diane (Bryan) Arthur who cared for him for many years, Gene (Robin) Wells, and Rachel (Dennis) Brown; two grandchildren whom he adored, James Lesher, and Tessa Lesher; his sister, Delsie (Larry) Maynard; and a large number of other family members and friends are left to cherish the time they spent with him.
Funeral services will be performed at the Akers-James Funeral Home on the afternoon of Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 1 pm. After the funeral, the burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill. On Saturday, the funeral home will be open for visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing up until the time of the ceremony.
