Esther Salas Shooting – U.S. District Judge Esther Salas embarked on a journey to guarantee that her son’s death was not in vain after she saw the murder of her only kid at the hands of an angry former litigant in July of 2020. The murderer was an upset former litigant. This journey reached a significant milestone on Monday when Congress approved a bill that will be known in perpetuity as the Daniel Anderl Act. The law’s intention is to secure the individually identifiable information of federal judges and the personally identifiable information of their immediate family members.
“By passing this crucial legislation, Congress has taken a solid step in preserving our democracy by protecting federal judges and their families,” Salas said in a statement released on Monday. He added that the law “will undoubtedly make it harder for violent individuals to find judges’ addresses and other personal information online.” In July 2020, Salas and her husband, Mark Anderl, were celebrating the 20th birthday of their son, Daniel, when a man posing as a delivery driver came to the front door of their New Jersey home, rang the doorbell and fatally shot Daniel to death.
Additionally, the guy shot Salas’ husband a total of three times. Salas remained safe and sound in the basement throughout the assault where he was located. According to the authorities, the individual targeted Salas because he discovered her address and personal information online. Salas is the first Hispanic U.S. District Judge in the state of New Jersey. After Salas had presided over a civil matter in which the guy supplied representation, the man, who is an anti-feminist activist and lawyer, had spewed hatred against Salas online and in a sexist book he had written.
The tragedy caused Salas and her husband to seek out to their three federal lawmakers from the state of New Jersey, who are all Democrats: Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker and Representative Mikie Sherrill. “They detailed the actions that they want to be taken. Menendez stated this during a news conference he had on Monday. “They wanted this bill to become his legacy.”
