Gene Gates Death, Obituary – Reverend Wiley Eugene “Gene” Gates, age 80, of Moravian Falls, passed away at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist of Wilkes Medical Center on February 6, 2022. He was on his way to his heavenly home when he departed this earthly house to travel to his heavenly home. He was born in Nitro, West Virginia on August 23, 1941 to Wylie and Elsie Gates, who have now passed away. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Gates. His parents also passed away. He is survived by his wife Lillie Joann Gates, three sons
Also Wiley Gates (Patti) and David Gates, of MD; Willy Gates, of NC; two daughters, Melody “Punky” Gates, of VA; Faith Koller (Dave), of NC; eight grandchildren, Lillie, Brandi, Kyli, Lauren, Julie, Brian, Kasey, and Taylor; seven great-grandchildren, Jocelin, Serenity, Amina, Beckett, Autumn, Elliott and Vincent; four brothers, Nelson Gates (Irene), Roger Gates, Stevie Gates, and Benny Gates (Becky).
He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and was always ready and prepared to talk to whomever he encountered about his faith in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed attending to church and chatting with other people.
Additionally, he looked forward to going to the Ruby Pardue Blackburn Adult daycare in Wilkesboro. His favorite days there were the ones in which they had Bible study. He assumed there was some significance to the name “Gene” that they gave him.
The celebration of Rev. Gates’s life will take place at a later time. Reverend Gates and his family received excellent medical care from Dr. Pinkerton and the nurses on the third floor.
