Izzy Slattery Death, Obituary – Izzy Slattery, age 101, a resident of Marlborough, passed away at the UMass Memorial – Marlborough Hospital on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. It’s in Marlborough. She was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Josephine (Kret) Dyka and the late wife of the late Daniel Kenney, who passed away in 1988. Her parents Sebastian and Josephine (Kret) Dyka both passed away. In addition, Isabel was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ellen Busa, who passed away in the year 1996.
In 1937, Izzy began her working career as a supervisor for The Division of Youth Services after having previously held a position at the New York Telephone Company. She also spent 20 years working at Wayside Union in Framingham, where she was a staff member at both the co-ed institution and the secure unit for females at Pelitier Center before taking her retirement.
It was both in her blood and a huge joy for her to garden. She stayed active by spending countless hours cultivating and maintaining her garden. She delighted in giving her friends and neighbors some of the flowers and veggies she grew. Strangers would walk up to her and congratulate her for all of the hard work that she had put in so that they might admire the gorgeous flowers throughout the year, and they would occasionally dig up a few plants for themselves.
