Joe Haasen Obituary. Death – Joe Haasen, 67, died on August 19, 2023, at home with his family by his side. Anita Haasen (Van Engelen), his wife and closest friend, his children Brandon (Katie) and Tamara, and stepchildren Jacinda (Billy), Jimmy (Morgan), and Shaina (Jeff), will miss him dearly. Ryder, Nash, Macey, Griffin, Colton, Ari, and Dani will never forget their Opa and will always cherish the memories they have of him. Joe is the step-son of the late Pete Bastiaansen (2001) and the son of the late Henrica Bastiaasen and the late Ties Haasen (1973).
John (Therese) and Rita (Ken), Elly (deceased, 2010), Jerry (Nancy), and Matt (Denise) have a brother named Jerry. Anthony was the brother-in-law of the late Adrian (JoAnn), Chris (Brenda), Pete (Harriet), Jack (Irma), and Dawn (Anthony). Adrian passed away in 2012. Joe’s many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews in the Bastiaasen family will miss him dearly. Joe and his wife of 22 years, Anita, tied the knot in 1998. They loved taking Corvette rides, strolling their property, playing cards, going to Aruba, and watching the sunset over Grand Bend. The two families became one through their common love for one another, and they created many lasting experiences together.
Joe has left behind a resumé that includes 40 years or more working in the construction industry in various capacities (from laborer to operator to owner of Blue-Con Construction and Brantam Excavating). His long career in the building trade earned him widespread renown and the esteem of his peers. Joe loved his job, but his family was his greatest accomplishment. Joe frequently made jokes about how he would have had grandkids sooner if he had known how much fun they would be.
Joe was an excellent source of insight and guidance. His hilarious one-liners and charming personality brightened every party he attended. Everyone who knew Joe will miss him dearly. Joe/Dad/Opa will be sorely missed, but we will always have the wisdom he imparted to us to keep his memory alive. There will be a private memorial service. On Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, please join us for a celebration of life at Caradoc Sands Golf Club (24500 Saxton Rd, Strathroy).
