Joseph Czyz Missing, Found Safe – A youngster from Owasco who had been reported missing on Monday night was found after nearly two days of looking for him. The adolescent had been reported missing on Monday night. Joseph Wade Czyz, who is thirteen years old, was found, as indicated by a post that his mother, Rachel, wrote on the social networking site Facebook on Wednesday night. On Monday evening, between the hours of 8:00 and 10:30 p.m., the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reports that Joseph departed his residence located in the area of Adams Avenue in Owasco. The adolescent was located in Owasco Elementary School, which is where the school is named.
On Tuesday, members of the New York State Police K-9 squad used bloodhounds to scour the area around the school. Searches were undertaken in the region on Wednesday by members of the Air 1 helicopter unit of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. During the search, the Cayuga County Highland Search and Rescue team passed out flyers that had Joseph’s contact information, and the Owasco Fire Department served as the command center for the operation.
In an interview with The Citizen that took place early on Wednesday morning, the Sheriff of Cayuga County, Brian Schenck, indicated that his agency was “utilizing all available resources as we do not have any definitive evidence as to why Joseph is missing.” Joseph has been missing since early last week. In a press announcement issued after Joseph was found, Schenck indicated that the adolescent “did intentionally avoid discovery until located.” After Joseph had been located, this action was taken.
Schenck extended gratitude to all of the members of the community who offered their time to assist with the investigation. He also expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies, fire and medical experts, and search teams that were involved.
