Michelle Casey Death, Obituary – Michele Marie (Baker) Casey, age 59, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and previously of New Cumberland, passed away at home on her wedding anniversary, Saturday, August 25, 2012, following a battle with cancer. She was accompanied by her loving family at the time of her passing. She was the daughter of Marie Elizabeth (Garverick) Baker Hoover and the late Robert Charles Baker, Sr., and was born in Harrisburg on November 28, 1952. Her full name is Marie Elizabeth (Garverick) Baker Hoover. On August 25, 1973, Michele tied the knot with Robert “Bob” A. Casey, Jr., who would later become her husband.
Michele received her high school diploma from Trinity High School in 1970, her undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg University in 1973, and her master’s degree in humanities from Penn State University in 1992. After 38 years of service in the classroom, she took early retirement from the Cumberland Valley School District in June of 2011. Michele held a variety of positions within the Cumberland Valley Education Association during the course of her involvement with the organization, including those of former President and Editor of the Association’s Newsletter. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg was her church of choice, and she was a member there.
Michele was well-known in the community for her work in a variety of local theatrical companies as an actor, director, and committed behind-the-scenes talent. Both she and her husband, Bob, were huge fans of the theater and often appeared on stage together. Michele was alluded to by Bob on many occasions as his “leading lady, wife, and best friend.” To Kill a Mockingbird was Michele’s favorite novel, and she was a real bibliophile who loved books. She was a yard sale fanatic with a voracious appetite and liked participating in the activity with her closest friend, Karen. Stone Harbor, in particular, was one of her most cherished locations, and the beach was another.
Her family was the thing that she treasured the most, and she looked forward to spending time with her grandkids the most. When she remembered about the time her family had spent on vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, she would always have a warm grin on her face. Michele will be mourned deeply, cherished in perpetuity, and never, ever forgotten.
Surviving members of Michele’s family include her devoted husband of 39 years, Robert “Bob” A. Casey, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her son, James R.
