Mike Skelly Obituary, Death – Michael Patrick Skelly, 74 years old, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021. God, his family, and our great nation were all very important to Mike. He was the son of Roy William Skelly and Lorraine Evelyn Dooher Skelly and was born on November 3, 1946 in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Between the years of 1960 and 1964, he was a member of the basketball team at DeLaSalle High School, which he attended. After completing his high school education, he continued his basketball career at the University of St. Thomas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education as well as a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Shortly after that, Mike signed up to serve his country in the United States Army, and he was stationed in Vietnam during that time. While he was stationed in Worms, Germany, he was given the opportunity to participate in the Army’s basketball team once more. Mike was a previous owner and operator of Skelly’s Diamond Carpet in Maple Grove, Minnesota, as well as The Computer Guy in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Mike was also a previous owner and operator of both businesses.
In addition to that, he worked at Robbinsdale High School as a teacher of health and physical education. He was a proud alumni of DeLaSalle High School in Minnesota as well as St. Thomas University in Minnesota, and one of his favorite things to do was to coach basketball, especially for his daughters. His most cherished pastime was attending his daughters’ and grandchildren’s events and activities. Mike was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother Bob Skelly, and both of his grandparents.
Kevin Marie Shaughnessy, his fiancee; five daughters, Meg and Andy Kendzor (Zack and Matt) of West Bend, Wisconsin, Erin and Josh Smith (Joey and Trevor) of Okemos, Michigan, Jenny Skelly and Jeff Sipe, San Diego, California, Andrea Skelly (Shawn, Carter, and Brianna) of Monticello, Minnesota, and Mary and Matt Hayes (expecting in March 2022), of St. Mike’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from noon-3:00pm, concluding with a Liturgy of the Word at 2:30pm at the DeLaSalle High School Gymnasium.
