Raymond Seth Death, Obituary – Raymond Seth Sweetsir, Sr., aged 84, of Russellville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Born in Portland, Maine on February 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Herbert and Roxie Sweetsir. Raymond had a distinguished career in the United States Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War. His military service enriched his life and left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Raymond’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 57 years, Betti Sweetsir, who stood by his side through life’s journey. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their bond. Raymond’s legacy is continued by his six devoted sons: Raymond Sweetsir, Jr. (Jane) of Russellville, Ky.; Joe Sweetsir (Maike) of Germany; David Sweetsir of Baltimore; Horst Uwe Sweetsir of Bowling Green, Ky.; Michael Sweetsir (Freida) of Franklin, Ky.; and Patrick Sweetsir (Lisa) of Russellville, Ky.
Additionally, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle Cather of Colona, Ill. Raymond’s family extended beyond his children, encompassing his brother, Steven Sweetsir of Pennsylvania, and his sister, Lynn Miner-Hasler of Florida. His legacy lives on through his 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who were all sources of joy and pride in his life.
The funeral service to honor Raymond Sweetsir, Sr.’s life will be held on Friday, August 18, at 12 p.m. in the Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel. His son, Raymond Sweetsir, Jr., will officiate the service. Following the service, a burial with military honors will take place at the Veterans West Cemetery in Hopkinsville. Visitation for friends and family will begin at the funeral home on Friday, August 18, starting at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m.
