Robert Leeman Death, Obituary – With profound sorrow, we share the news of the passing of a beloved pillar in our family, Robert Leeman Turner. Known affectionately as Daddy Turner, he held a special place in our hearts as a true cornerstone of our lives. Born in Florence, AL, Daddy Turner joined his life with that of his beloved Willie Augusta Key, and together they brought forth four wonderful children. In 1957, he made history by becoming the first Black maintenance man employed by the Florence City School District.
With determination and hard work, he served in this role for an astounding 54 years, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering commitment and diligence. Throughout his life, Daddy Turner faced both heartache and triumph. He endured the pain of burying his wife and two sons, and he emerged victorious in his battle against cancer, a testament to his unyielding spirit. It was his transformative decision to embrace Christ that truly marked a new chapter in his journey. As scripture reminds us, this step made him a new creation, a man of unwavering faith.
Daddy Turner’s devotion extended to his role as a loyal usher at New Birth Ministries for nearly three decades. He stood as a constant pillar of support for both the church and his son, Apostle Turner. His dedication was not only inspiring but also a testament to the strength of his convictions.
Although he was born as an only child, Daddy Turner leaves behind a sprawling legacy that spans generations. He is survived by his two children, Apostle Robert Turner and Arlene Dawson, along with 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members.
