William Terrell Death, Obituary – William Terrell “Bill” May, Sr., a beloved resident of Bedford, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. Born on April 4, 1953, in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, he was the cherished son of the late Earl H. May and Mary Jane Drumheller May.
Bill’s life journey led him to the retail furniture business, where he poured his passion into making furniture shopping a delightful experience for his friends and customers. A proud alumnus of Mississippi State University, Bill’s dedication to his work was evident in his commitment to creating enjoyable and memorable shopping interactions.
A devoted member of Bedford Baptist Church, Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He served as a Deacon and Usher, exemplifying his deep connection to his spiritual community. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, evident in his avid support for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and his playful sense of humor. He often delighted in playing lighthearted pranks on his friends, keeping the atmosphere around him cheerful.
Bill’s interests were diverse and reflected his zest for life. He relished fishing and golf, found solace in camping and biking, nurtured a garden, and took joy in birdwatching. His eclectic taste in music was a constant backdrop to his vibrant presence. Even in his spare moments, he tirelessly supported his son on the family farm, showing his unwavering dedication as a father.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Karen Weaver May. His sons, William Terrell May, Jr., and Alan Michael May, were his pride and joy. Bill cherished his four special grandchildren, Brayley, Tripper, Reagan, and Sawyer, whose happiness brought him immeasurable delight.
He is also survived by his brothers, Earl H. May, Jr., and Robert J. May, Sr., along with a network of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews from the May and Drumheller families. In honor of his memory, the family kindly requests donations to Bedford Baptist Church or the Shepherd’s Table at Bedford Christian Ministries.
A service to commemorate Bill’s life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Bedford Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Khol. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bedford on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM and on Monday at the church an hour prior to the service.
